Your chance to photograph some of our resident Birds Of Prey as well as Reptiles and other creatures at Liberty Owl, Raptor And Reptile Centre near Ringwood on the edge of the New Forest. During the day you will have the opportunity to take photos of some of the birds placed on our special perches, the public flying demonstrations and some of the reptiles and creepy crawlies from very close range with no wire or glass in the way. This is a great all round experience day with plenty of variety and suitable for photographers of all abilities and ages. An experienced photographer is always on hand to give help and advice to those who are looking to improve their skills through out the day.
Your day will start at 10.00am with a quick safety briefing and an introduction to the falconer who will be looking after you for the day. After this you will be given the opportunity to get up really close to some of our resident birds for static shots followed by some flying birds to photograph as well as the reptiles and other residents later on in the day. A mixed day with lots of variety!
A sandwich tray lunch is provided as are your tea or coffee during your day. Other refreshments are available from the cafe.
The day ends around 3.00pm, after which you are free to remain inside the Centre if you wish.
What you need to bring: Comfortable clothing for the environment and for the weather conditions. The ground can be a little wet and muddy, and obviously we will be out in the open so sensible clothing and footwear is a must. Plenty of memory cards and batteries for your camera, people often find that they have taken far more images then they thought they would. We would suggest that you bring a water proof mat, or a simple bin liner, as sometimes it pays to shoot from a low vantage point such as kneeling or lying down.
Recommended Camera Equipment: We recommend a DSLR camera or a high end compact with a zoom of at least 200mm focal length. We have plenty of people using small pocket compacts, but for the most versatility a zoom is useful. You will be able to get fairly close to the birds, around 2 meters for the bigger birds and perhaps closer to the smaller ones at the discretion of the Falconer in charge of them. A tripod can be useful in poor light, as can a flash gun. A macro lens can also be an advantage for this day.
Cost: The Liberty’s Centre Photo Day costs £55 per photographer to join. This comprises of a £15 non-refundable Deposit payable at the time of booking and the balance payable on arrival at the Centre on the day. Please contact us to book your day. Public Photo Days are limited to 15 photographers attending on any one day.
Private Bookings: We can take private bookings for these days from clubs and private individuals, which is a great way of enjoying the day in the privacy of your group. The basic rate is £250 for up to 5 photographers, any further photographers are charged at £40 a head.
