Liberty’s Outdoor Birds Of Prey Photo Day

Your chance to take some stunning static photos of these beautiful birds in natural surroundings and in natural light. We take a selection of at least 5 Birds Of Prey out in to our outdoor photography location on the edge of the beautiful New Forest and pose them on a selection of perches for you to photograph. An experienced photographer is always on hand should you require advice or help during the course of your day with us.

Your day starts at 9.45am at Liberty’s Owl, Raptor And Reptile Centre near Ringwood in Hampshire where the group will meet up in the cafe for introductions and a brief safety talk. We will then go to our natural photography area which involves a brief walk of around 150 metres over uneven terrain.

Once we are there, each bird will be taken out one at a time and set up on various natural perches for you to photograph. These days are great for natural looking static photos of the birds in  natural looking surroundings.

The day ends around 1.00pm, after which you are free to remain in the Centre if you wish.

What you need to bring: Comfortable clothing for the environment and for the weather conditions. The ground can be a little wet and muddy, and obviously we will be out in the open so sensible clothing and footwear is a must. Plenty of memory cards and batteries for your camera, people often find that they have taken far more images than they thought they would.

Recommended Camera Equipment: We recommend a DSLR camera or a high-end compact with a zoom of at least 200mm focal length. We have plenty of people using small pocket compacts and bridge cameras but for the most versatility a good zoom is useful. You will be able to get fairly close to the birds, around 2 meters for the bigger birds and perhaps closer to the smaller ones at the discretion of the Falconer in charge of them.

A tripod can be useful in poor light, as can a flash gun, and a bin liner can be a useful addition just in case of rain where it can be used as a quick waterproof cover for your gear.
