Our Bird Of Prey Studio Workshops take place at Liberty’s Owl, Raptor And Reptile Centre near Ringwood, Hampshire, on the edge of the New Forest and give people a unique opportunity to take photos of some stunning Birds Of Prey in a studio setting using professional lighting equipment.
Throughout the course of the day there will always be an experienced photographer on hand to help you get the most from your day, helping you with camera settings and suggestions for those who want them. The day is entirely hands on, the whole day being spent in the studio with a good selection of birds being placed in front of the lights through out the day.
By the end of the day you should have a better understanding of using manual exposure mode, a better understanding of how the histogram works and how it helps with getting your exposures correct as well as a better understanding of the relationships between Aperture, Shutter Speed and Iso. You should also have a number of nice photos!
Usually the day starts with some of the smaller birds which might typically include a Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Kestrel, later progressing to some bigger birds such as a Peregrine Falcon, Great Grey Owl and Chanting Goshawk.
There are 2 backgrounds available when shooting which will depend where you stand in the studio room, so you can choose one or the other.
At around midday there is a short break during which time a sandwich tray lunch is provided as well as all teas and coffees throughout the day.
There are not many places that offer this kind of day, especially with this variety of birds, making this Workshop fairly unique. The cost for the day is £55 per person which is amazing value for money for this kind of opportunity.
